Grownup Gripe: I’ve got enough on my plate, now is not the time for that, I’ll get to it later.
As time goes on do you put yourself last? Are you a people pleaser who can’t say NO?
Especially as our responsibilities grow it’s easy to put ourselves on the back burner.
More often than not, it’s the issue of time.
There are only so many hours in a day and between all our responsibilities at home and at work by the time you finally get a second for yourself, put a fork in you you’re done.
The problem is life’s too short to not do you.
We don’t know what tomorrow will bring but if you’re lucky enough to actually grow old and look back, will you have any regrets?
You simply need to carve out a little time for you. It’s comforting for your body and soul.
Even if it’s just 5 minutes, take time for yourself every day and take some inventory.
Get a pulse on how things shook out for the day, reevaluate and come up with possible tweaks you can make to enhance life.
Even if it’s super early or late. Even if you’re tired. Even if there’s no time. Make time.
Think about what you really want in life and figure out how to start making it happen.
Is there something you really want to do but just haven’t been able to pull the trigger yet?
Do you have places you want to go, people, you want to see, things you want to do but something seems to be holding you back?
Maybe it’s procrastination or fear or culmination but you can’t seem to do it.
There are probably a million reasons (i.e. excuses) getting in the way. Stop them now.
If it’s going to make your life better and you a happier person than what is truly inhibiting you from finally getting to that finish line?
Countless research studies reveal people who regularly procrastinate have higher levels of stress and lower well-being.
Here are 12 surefire tips to get WHATEVER it is you want in life ASAP!
1. NO more excuses.
You’re missing out on opportunities. If you keep putting whatever it is off until tomorrow you may not ever get the chance.
Understandably it’s hard, that’s probably the main reason why you haven’t done it yet.
2. Expect road bumps (or huge mountains).
Chances are way back when you made an attempt or started the process there were obstacles that got in the way and impeded any traction. They got the best of you.
They say life is what happens when you’re busy making plans. Unfortunately it’s true.
Stop letting life STOP you in your tracks. Pull your big boy/girl pants up and do it already!
3. Figure it out, no matter how impossible it is to accomplish.
More than likely it’s not going to work perfectly the first time or the second or even the third so just learn to expect that.
If you’re failing guess what that means at least you’re trying. Bigger and better things come out of failure. Have you ever heard about Steve Jobs’ in the early days of Apple?
According to the Seattle Times, he struck out 1,330 times but always came back for more.
4. Just do it, go ahead and pull that trigger.
The fact you’re still reading this article tells me you’ve got some kind of fire in your belly ready to be ignited. You can do it.
Stop worrying about what could go wrong and instead think about what can go right.
5. You need to fake it until you make it.
Take the first step, that’s the hardest one but then take another AND another. Before you know it your on your way. Watch out world.
Even though you don’t know what you’re doing, at least you’re doing it! Keep it up.
You will figure it out along the way.
6. Be sure to put your blinders on. Carry-on.
Haters are going to hate and s**t is going to happen. Channel your inner Godfather and fuhgeddaboutit. Don’t let anyone or anything hinder you from getting anything YOU want and everything YOU deserve.
Conduct business as usual and don’t worry about what can go wrong. It too will pass.
7. Keep your eyes focused on the prize.
Keep moving toward your end goal. Don’t let the little things steer you off-path.
When things go off the rails keep that in mind. It’ll help you get through the weeds.
If it was easy everyone would do it. Stick to your guns and eventually, it will happen.
8. For a while, it’s going to be uncomfortable.
You’re going to have to put in some hard work, it will seem impossible at times especially at the beginning. Don’t give up.
If you’re not willing to leave your comfort zone and try new things you’ve always wanted to do deep down, you will not grow.
9. Get ready to put in some arduous work.
When plans go awry change the course to get to the desired result. Don’t feel sorry for yourself. Don’t get down on your luck.
Don’t let anyone else or your inner thoughts get your goat. There will always be lingering regret if you don’t at least give it a go.
10. Give it your best.
Nobody who ever gave his best regretted it said George Halas. If you give it your all you will feel fulfilled, even if it goes off course.
No matter how difficult it may seem you just need to set a goal, figure out the steps, take it day by day and finally make it happen.
If you half-ass it you’re bound to fail but if you give it your all at least you know now.
11. Do NOT settle.
Let’s say it doesn’t work out. I believe everything happens for a reason.
Consider yourself lucky. Move onto the next.
Surely there are things you want to do you haven’t yet. Do you have a bucket list?
12. Think of all the challenges you’ve overcome in life.
Remember what it took to accomplish those things. When insecurity boils over use those innate strengths to persevere. It helps to keep your head up knowing if you were able to conquer those things, you got it now.
Hold your own no matter what. Walk around like you own the place. It works.
I mean don’t be a total jerk off and this may be difficult for some of you jk but I know this is totally out of character for others.
Confidence is a game-changer. It changes your mood. It makes you feel powerful.
I.e in business they say use the Superman stance while holding your own and you will exude confidence. Keep in your arsenal.
Put your hands on your hips and stand with your feet hip-width apart to empower you during moments of doubt. Hold your own.
Don’t let anyone or anything intimidate you!
This blog is one of the most intimidating things I’ve done lately; I don’t even use FB.
It might have taken three years to complete and still looks totally Busch league but I’m powering through it and it feels so good.
Close your eyes. Soul search for a minute.
What is it you really want to do deep down you haven’t tried or made the time to because of life’s excuses? Give it a go.
Good days give you happiness. Bad days give you experience. The worst days give you lessons. The best days give you memories.
Are you ready to make some memories? Trust me you’ll be happier, in the end, you did it EVEN if it goes south. I promise you!
If it goes off the rails, abort! Onto the next.
