Grownup Gripe: I hate rubberized processed cheese sauce, you can save that for the kids.
If you’ve ever eaten an amazing plate of nachos, cheese fries or even a side of dipping cheese that equates to liquid gold, it doesn’t matter what accompanies it, your meal just got a whole lot better.
I lived in Wisconsin where cheese is taken very seriously and I mean very. #cheesehead
Cheese sauce is like a beverage, it’s on everything and this is one of my favorites!
What if you could make the cheesiest, most savory drink from the cup cheese sauce?
Just in time for Super Bowl Sunday, now you can! Don’t you dare use a packet when it’s easier and tastes way better on your own.
Here you go, hope you enjoy!
Double Dipper Cheese Sauce

- 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 Teaspoon minced garlic
- 1/2 Teaspoon finely grated onion or it’s juice
- 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded or diced Havarti cheese
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 4 ounces of diced jalapeños, seeds removed (optional)
- Sweet peppers, diced for garnishing
Melt butter in a sauce pan over low to medium heat. Whisk in flour until lightly browned. Do not overcook
Gradually stir in 1/2 cup of milk to create a roux, Cook 1 to 2 minutes, stirring or whisking constantly. Stir in remaining milk, garlic, onion and paprika until mixture thickens, about one minute
Stir in cheeses (and jalapeños if you like heat) until melted, about 1 to 2 minutes. Mixture can be thinned with milk as needed; season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve with hot tortilla chips, french fries, pretzel bites, ANYTHING you can think of.
