Grownup Gripe: Variety is the spice of life but how do you find it, especially during Caronavirus?
My daughter came home the other day from school and told me her new fav friend (the ONLY girl she talks about since going back) wouldn’t play with her so she played by herself that day.
Of course every parent hates to hear this but I explained she needs to add to her playbook asap.
Explaining the concept of not putting all our eggs in one basket is an applicable life lesson for all of us since I believe often times we lose sight of this.
Whether it’s the playground or you’re a grownup, you’re ahead of the game if you opt to diversify.
The only caveat for me here is with friends as I’m a firm believer of quality vs quantity in that dept.
We don’t know what life‘s going to throw at us so new experiences make us stronger by preparing us for the unknown while offering spoils/lessons.
If you’re always waiting for one thing or person to come through, you’ll be waiting for a while.
Discover new avenues, new people, new ways of life; put yourself out there. Be more openminded.
Life’s too short and has way too much to offer!
You don’t know what you’re missing if you don’t get out of your box/far enough from your block.
Like the sign below that hangs in my kitchen says.
We don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow so carpe diem while you’re still here and enjoy it!
When establishing wealth, this also rings true with investments and how you manage your $.
In health, we know it’s not just diet & exercise as there are so many ways we can clean up our act.
As your compass ebs and flows and as the years quickly pass by you’ll succeed AND you will fail.
Don’t let failures steer you off course, get back up.
Ever listen to Frank Sinatra’s ‘That’s Life’? It says “I’ve been a puppet a pauper a pirate a poet a pawn and a king. I’ve been up and down and over and out but I know one thing. Each time I find myself layin’ flat on my face I just pick myself up and get back in the race. That’s life.”
The possibilities are endless but if you never take the first step, regrets will surely be inevitable.
Don’t miss out!
The only person who’s looking back at you every day in the mirror is you and you wanna be happy, don’t you? Go out there and get what you want!
Who cares what anybody else thinks? Even when you fail, it feels so good to actually try new things.
Maybe you’re stuck in your bubble and don’t know how to get out. If so here are some ideas.
8 ways to get you out of your box
1. Try a new hobby/sport
Chances are there’s something you’ve always wanted to do/used to do but haven’t done forever. Well it’s now or never but during coronavirus it’s a good idea to pick things that are outside or activities you can do alone.
2. Do some research
What do you want to know more about? Get online and learn new things. See what’s out there but don’t stop there, get involved if applicable. Education is the 1 thing that can’t be taken away.
3. Hit the road
Go some place new, even a local road untraveled in your hometown and during COVID even if you don’t want to get out of your car, seeing new things opens up your little world that much more.
4. Do something you’ve never done with your kids or fur babies
Got kids/animals? Take them somewhere they’ve never been. They’ll love the spontaneity and most importantly love spending time with you. Go to a new park or find hiking trails nearby.
5. Check out your local community college
Again during these times you might have to do it online but there are a lot of new classes or fun activities you might enjoy really close to home.
6. Try a new show
Binge watch something you never thought you’d like (actually thought you’d hate) yet it peaks your interest. You may actually find a goodie to watch.
7. Diversify your funds
If you haven’t already, ensure your portfolio manager is allocating your $ appropriately. I’m not a Financial Advisor but have done maxed out my 401(k) in corporate America since my early 20s so know a thing or 2 and seen a thing or 2.
8. Get a makeover
Unfortunately self image and self-worth oftentimes go hand-in-hand so the better you feel about yourself the more apt you will be to try new things and put yourself out there so change up your hair color, get a new outfit, whatever it is ultimately you’ll start to feel as good as you look.
Just do IT, whatever IT is!
